After some time and space following a tragic accident at work, Larry and J talk about comedy in speculative fiction! Young Frankenstein! Ice Pirates! That one episode with the tribbles!

August 25, 2016 02:58 PM PDT

J and Larry talk about... Well, at J's work, an accident resulted in everything skipping a head a month. We're one month older. And Larry wants to talk about that scene in Star Trek 2: Everyone has birthdays, why are we treating yours like a funeral. So, I guess it's about time, aging, mortality. Thanks again to Heidi!

August 16, 2016 10:04 AM PDT

Larry explains where he has been for the past few weeks, launching him and J into a discussion about food in speculative fiction. Larry is stunned by J's choice of favorite food in fantasy, and Heidi makes her appearance to set some records straight.

J and Larry tackle the ouroboros of Fictional Fiction. You know, that work of fiction inside another work of fiction... How does it affect the story, how does it affect the understanding of the story? They totally talk about Saga and Watchmen, and they totally forget to talk about the Pirate comic in Watchmen. Thanks again to Heidi Handelsman!

July 11, 2016 10:53 AM PDT

After a really bad week at work, J and Larry talk about what's on everyone's mind in speculative fiction: warfare. Tactics! Pew, pew, pew! And, of course, Game of Thrones!

July 05, 2016 03:16 PM PDT

After a break, J and Larry are back, or have they always been here? This week: Retcon, what is it, what are the favorites... You thought you knew the whole story, and you did, until now. Retcon!

June 12, 2016 01:28 PM PDT

J and Larry work on reversing the polarity of the neutron flow as the plasma manifolds collapse because we didn't modulate the shield frequency 38%. That's right: it's the technobabble episode. Thanks to Heidi Handelsman!

June 06, 2016 01:10 PM PDT

J and Larry tackle sex in this episode. It wasn't such an icky conversation (maybe we weren't doing it right.) How does Star Trek handle sex? Is there sex in Star Wars? And then, of course, Game of Thrones. It all goes well until some technical issues... but then Heidi makes it all better.

May 30, 2016 12:55 PM PDT

Part Two of our special look at fashion in science fiction, comics and fantasy. This time, women's fashion. J and Larry have a special guest: Wren, a make up artist. She's there to make sure they don't make idiots of themselves. Thanks again to Heidi Handelsman!

May 23, 2016 03:53 PM PDT

After a week away because of... well, we'll let J explain, Deep Cut Nerd is back with the question: Just who is the best dressed in speculative fiction? A two part exploration, first up: the men.
Special thanks to Heidi Handelsman for making us sound awesome.

take it with you

Iphone_trans Listening to podcasts on your mobile devices is extremely convenient -- and it's what makes the podcasting medium so powerful.

You can take your favorite shows and mixes with you anywhere, but to do so requires some quick and simple steps.

Let's walk you through that process together.
step 1:

Click the "Subscribe With iTunes" link in the page's sidebar:

Subscribe_with_itunes

This will require that you have the iTunes software on your computer.

(You can download iTunes here.)
step 2:
Itunes_ss

Now that you've subscribed to the podcast on iTunes, the feed will display in your "Podcasts" section on the left navigation bar.

Click there and you'll see the show displayed in the iTunes browser.

You can "get all" to download all available episodes or just individual episodes.
step 3:

Plug your mobile device (iPhone, iPad, iPod) into your computer with the Dock Connector cable, and click the device in iTunes's left navigation bar.

Itunes_ss2

Once you have your device highlighted, click "Podcasts" in the top navigation bar and sync the podcasts you want on your device. Click "apply" and the episodes you have downloaded on your iTunes software will sync with your device.
that's it!

The beauty of this process is that now, every new episode of your subscribed podcasts will automatically sync to your device every time you plug it in and open iTunes. You can now take your favorite shows with you everywhere you go.

Enjoy!
done!
